Charles the Bald's bridgeworks at Pîtres (Eure) (1988)

DEARDEN Brian et HILL David

The river defences of the Seine mentioned in the Edicts of Pitres of 862 and 864 , and also referred to in the Annales Bertiniani for the same years (wich describe the situation as near to the confluence of the Seine with the Eure and Andelle) have been firmly identified with the medieval bridging site on the Seine at Pont-de-l’Arche – Eure (Lot, 1905).
